COVENANT WITH THE POOR
In 1997 the Parish started the Covenant with the Poor. In the Covenant we pledge ourselves to work for the transformation of those conditions which afflict the poor and outcasts of society. A new Covenant is signed each Pentecost when we start raising money for that year's cause. Over the years we have supported a wide range of projects including tire Trinity Centre, a clinic in Honduras, Wells for India , Hope and Homes for Children, The Sisters of St Lucy's mission in Eritrea . This year we are supporting the Winchester Visitors Group and Potter's House which cares for children living on the municipal dump in Guatamala city. We have four appeals each year to raise money together with a weekly donation front the Parish collection. We hold meetings throughout the year which are advertised in Peterpost and are open to everyone. more

LIFE

The charity LIFE seeks to inform the public about the reality of pregnancy,
when human life begins, and what a proper approach to that life should
entail. It also seeks to provide counselling for those troubled by any
aspect of pregnancy and practical help in the form of supportive housing or
other accommodation.
The Winchester Life Group, which meets about every six weeks, is mainly
concerned, at present, to raise funds for these objectives. It hopes to
increase its activities as it grows in numbers and in funds.

TRAIDCRAFT
Rather than giving aid Traidcraft helps people in developing countries work their own way out of poverty. This is achieved through trading fairly, buying their own products, and encouraging and developing skills in design, quality control and marketing, Traidcarft also aims to create awareness among customcrs of the unfair trading practices, which make people poor. Craftware is bought directly from the craftspeople, many working in cottage industries or through organisations set up by themselves or reputable local development agencies. Foods are purchased from groups where growers or processors benefit from fairer prices and better working conditions.Traidcraft is committed to showing an alternative way to trade that rejects self-interest and promotes justice. At St Peter's items are on sale in the parish Centre especially during Friday Charity lunches and on one Sunday each mouth, Money for goods bought can be placed in the small box in the lobby between the Church and the Parish Centre.
